For most of 2009 Nintendo outsold its rivals at Sony and Microsoft. In fact Nintendo released 7 of the top ten bestselling video games of 2009. Nintendo’s Wii held 6 of the top spots with the DS coming in at number 10 with Pokemon Platinum. But for all the video game giant’s success, Nintendo couldn’t grab the coveted top spot. That honor went to the xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Although not released until the middle of November, the mega hit also took the number 9 spot with its Playstation 3 version. But even with a strong fourth quarter, overall sales of video games was still down nearly 10%.
